This early Fall outing to the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado is amazing at the peak of the Indian Summer, early to mid-October. At 70F on the average, the daytime temperatures are perfect at elevations around 10,000 feet above sea level. At night and early morning they may dip near freezing point, especially camping at 11,500 feet as I did past Trout Lake, but it’s all part of the fun cycling during this colorful season.
