South Africa Destination SpecialistStretching between the Atlantic and the Indian oceans, sharing borders with Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, and engulfing Lesotho, South Africa is made up of a diverse tapestry of cultures. The Xhosa, Sotho, Zulu and other black population groups make up the majority. The white minority is of European descent and there is also a sizeable groups of Indian ancestry. Official language is Afrikaans and English, though there are eleven official languages with English being the most widely spoken.

South Africa is generally sunny and pleasant with warm summers and mild winters. Best time to visit South Africa is between April and November, when average daytime temperatures range 77F and 92F. While the majority of the country is semi arid, the costal area around the Cape enjoys a Mediterranean climate and the north eastern Natal KwaZulu coast is subtropical.

Topographically South Africa is a high plateau descending into the Kalahari desert basin in the north and the Great Karroo, a plateau basin in the south-west. The Drakensberg mountain range lines the south-east of the country.

South Africa’s diversity of cultures and landscapes is its main attraction. There are several national parks including the famous Kruger and Kalahari Gemsbok. Whether you’ll sample the Big Five, lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo or the zebra, antelope, giraffe, ostrich, baboon, rhinoceros and the meerkat, your South Africa safari will be an unforgettable wildlife experience.

The Kruger National Park has an extensive network of sealed roads, 4WD tracks, mountain bike and hiking trails. If you appreciate nature, the sounds and scents of the bush are never that far away even if you stick to the tarmac. Southern Kruger is the most popular section of the park, with the highest animal concentrations and the easiest access. Kruger is at its best in the far north.

Whether you visit the Cradle of Humankind site in Gauteng Province, an UNESCO world heritage site, the stunning Cango Caves in South Africa Western Cape, the 2000 mile long coastline with its stunning beaches and fine international standard golf courses, or focus on South Africa’s urban scene, from Cape Town to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, East London or Port Elizabeth and Soweto, partake in casino entertainment, tour the Boer War and Zulu Battlefields, go wine tasting, bungee jumping or cage swimming with great white sharks, you’ll soon realize that you’ll have to come back again. With well developed infrastructure and efficiently managed transportation system, great variety of accommodations, a perfect country to visit on a honeymoon, to get pampered and recuperate in holistic spas, South Africa is also a perfect choice as a family holiday destination.
