Panna National Park spreads over 542 Square Kilometers that was carved out of the hunting reserves of the erstwhile provincial states of Panna, Chattarpur and Bijawar. It was accorded sanctuary status in 1975, upgraded to a National Park in 1981 and became India’s 22nd Tiger Reserve in 1994.
The Panna hills provide the catchments area for the Ken River, which is the life line of the park. It is predominantly an open forest, offering great opportunity to see the tiger and other mammals. It also supports closed canopy forests, open forest with short grass and undercover, open savannah woodlands, which reflect sub Saharan habitats, tall grasslands and degraded scrub. Driving through the undulating land and plateaus is an experience in itself.

Logistic Details : Panna is located 35 Kms from Khajuraho. It can be included between Khajuraho and Orccha without having to overnight in Khajuraho on return. It takes about an hour to reach Panna ex Khajuraho. Panna to Orccha takes about 5 hours by car.

Include Panna into the Ancient Cultures and Temples Itinerary:

Suggested accommodations:

Ken River Lodge:

Ken River Lodge is owned by wildlife enthusiast Shyamendra Singh. Encouraged by his love for wildlife, he made a humble start in 1990 to establish the lodge. The Lodge was washed out in the floods of 1992, only to come out stronger and better.
The lodge consists of 10 Deluxe Tents with attached bathrooms with w/c, hot and cold water, dressing room and sit out and 10 Cottage Rooms with modern bathrooms, living room, kitchen and open deck. The tents and cottages are spread out in 30 acres of mixed jungle in undulating terrain, giving a jungle experience which a few in the country can parallel. The Ken river runs for almost a mile with the property. Shyamendra and his well trained team consisting of local staff, naturalist, boatmen, make the stay a memorable one.
