Egypt has obviously far more to offer than the pyramids. If you want to explore it in full, you should not miss Mount Sinai and the Saint Catherine Monastery. It is a spectacular natural setting for priceless works of art and the second largest collection of illuminated manuscripts (the Vatican has the largest). Though established and patronized most of its history by the Russian Orthodox Church, it is now under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Church. Most of its monks are also of Greek origin. Mount Sinai is said to be among the most stupendous works of Nature, a place most fitting for the exhibition of Almighty power. Mount Sinai, Mount Mousa (or Musa), also referred to as Jebel Musa, Gebel Mousa, Mount Moses or the Mountain of Moses is both the name of a collection of peaks, sometimes referred to as the Holy Mountains, and the biblical name of the peek on which Moses received the Ten Commandments. The 7,497 foot mountain has 3,750 steps hewn out of stone by monks of St. Catherine's Monastery and is accessible by the steps, or by a gentler path east of the monastery. Both lead to an amphitheater known as the "Seven Elders of Israel". From there, one must ascend the remaining 750 steps to reach the summit, where the Chapel of the Holy Trinity is, to enjoy a truly breathtaking view.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Cairo/St. Catherine-in the morning, depart for St. Catherine by car. In the afternoon, arrive at St. Catherine's and check into hotel.

Day 2: St Catherine-in the early morning ascent to Mount Sinai; after visit St. Catherine monastery. Afternoon free.

Day 3: St. Catherine / Cairo; in the afternoon drive back to Cairo.
