4) Danube Trail
Romantic Slovakia:
Bratislava Banska Stiavnica
(8 day, self-guided tour 960, guided tour 1290 )
Take
in the natural and cultural heritage of Western and Central
Slovakia. Cycle through Trnava, so-called Slovak Rome for
its fortifications and churches; Piestany, an infamous spa
town; historical Trencin and Krmnica and finally Bojnice
with its romantic chateau. You will be cycling along the
river Vah and over the mountain Homolka. Finish in Banska
Stiavnica with the old town center protected by UNESCO.

From Danube to Tatra
Mountains: Bratislava Dolny Kubin
(10 day, self-guided tour 1190, guided tour 1490 )
Experience
the unspoilt countryside of the Low Tatras and Western Tatra
mountains. From the banks of the Danube see the cathedral in
Esztergom and then cycle through the historical towns of
Kremnica and Banska Bystrica. Higher up you will ride
through small mountain villages where traditional crafts are
still being practised (see rugs being hand-made in Malatina).
Wooden churches in Lestiny and Hronsek are built without
using any nails at all and the traditional wooden cottages
in village of Vlkonec are protected under UNESCO.
Fully supported self-guided or guided bike tours with 3-4
star hotel/pension accommodation. You can also
Create-Your-Own bicycle vacations along this route. We rate
the tour as challenging for seasoned cyclists only.
Amber Trail: Budapest
Krakow
(10 day, self-guided tour 1190, guided tour 1490 )
This
classic cycle tour goes through three countries - Hungary,
Slovakia, and Poland in the steps of the historic amber
trade route. Biking from the waters of the Danube to the
springs in the mountains of Slovakia and Poland, there is a
wealth of historical/cultural heritage and 6 UNESCO
protected sites Budapest, Banska Stiavnica, the
traditional village of Vlkolinec, the pilgrimage site of
Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Wieliczka salt mine and the royal
city of Cracow.
Fully supported self-guided or guided bike tours with 3-4
star hotel/pension accommodation. You can also
Create-Your-Own bicycle vacations along this route. We rate
the tour as challenging for seasoned cyclists only.
Danube Trail:
Bratislava Sturovo
(4 day, self-guided tour 410, guided tour 550 )
This
tour follows the river valley of the Danube as it flows
east. Although this tour is in Slovakia you will quickly
realize that Hungary has more influence on this region than
just being on the southern bank of the Danube. For many
Slovak towns along the winding Danube river, Hungarian is
the language of choice with a large ethnic Hungarian
population. Start in the capital city of Bratislava, the
site of a Neolithic settlement 5000 years ago. Traveling
along the Danube river as it meanders through the landscape
you will come across many confluences with other rivers and
quite a few spa towns have been established due to the
mineral rich waters in the area. This is a good area for
bird watching as you follow the river bank. The Gabcikovo
waterworks is an interesting point along the way. Finish in
Sturovo with the opportunity to visit the city of Esztergom
with its immense cathedral across the river.
