This route is full of cultural and historical gems including 6 UNESCO world heritage sites – Schonbrunn palace in Vienna, the chateaux of Valtice and Lednice, the renaissance town square in Telc, the medieval town of Cesky Krumlov and the rustic baroque village of Holasovice.
You will also cycle along the remnants of the Iron Curtain as you follow the border area with Austria. You will be staying in the best small towns along the way whose local pubs serve the best beer in the world – it could only be Czech beer!

This river valley tour follows the course of the Vltava and then the Labe, the rivers linking the two important cultural cities of Prague and Dresden. Firstly the well preserved, UNESCO protected, gothic church of St. Barbara in the town of Kutna Hora, Pernstejn castle (probably the most beautiful castle in the Czech Republic), Cesky Sternberk castle and Santini’s church of St. John of Nepomuk, protected by UNESCO. The breath-taking nature of the Sumava Mountains in South Bohemia lead to the area being designated as a National Park and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Cycling by small mountain towns and villages and around the forested slopes of the largest mountain, we show you the leaning tower in Domazlice as well as Vyssi Brod monastery and the imposing Rozmberk castle. This cycle tour is an easier variant of our classic Budapest-Cracow tour but still follows the ancient system of trade routes from Austria to the Czech Republic to Poland. After riding through the Lower Austrian and South Moravian wine regions you visit the most beautiful cave system in the Czech Republic plus the architectural wonder of Miles van der Rohe, Villa Tugendhet in Brno. Riding on to Olomouc, containing a wealth of protected monuments and to the Polish town and concentration camp Osvetim (Auswitz), you finally end your tour in the UNESCO protected, royal city of Cracow.

The largest of its time, Slavkov (Austerlitz) in 1805 was a victory for Napoleon’s outnumbered troops, while the second biggest battle of the 19th century occurred outside of Hradec Kralove between Prussia and Austria. As well as war memorials, cycle through the winegrowing region of South Moravia and see the largest cave system in the Czech Republic, and the UNESCO protected town of Litomysl.
