St Mary's Glacier & Continental Divide experience

Climbing James Peak constitutes one the most rewarding experiences of the Rocky Mountains that can be accomplished on a day trip from Denver. Aside the stunning panorama of the Continental Divide with Long Peak at its northern apex, the ascent leads across the wonderful St. Mary's Glacier. The route climbs steeply from a small lake at the foot of the glacier and immediately a grand panorama of the Front Range opens up. There may be handful of snowboards whipping down the glacier, which is lined by cliffs and rocs before its summit opens up onto a wildflower-studded wide-open meadows where from begins the final steep ascent to the James Peak summit.

Participants should be in a reasonable shape to complete the ascent, however, even athletic children of at least 14 years of age can take part. On the other hand, if the ascent of the peak, a non-technical hike, proves to be too difficult for you and you are unable to deal with altitude and/or the steepness of the slope, hiking on the glacier itself makes for a satisfactory experience and a fine day trip.

The trip is full-day undertaking, with about 3 hours allocated for the roundtrip drive from/back to Denver and 6 hours for the ascent.

Tour Option: as 1 night / 2 day tour with overnight in a luxury B&B with stunning views of St. Mary's Glacier, the historic Georgetown or at Idaho Springs Hot Springs Resort.

Add-on Options:  James Peak ascent, Mt Evans, Georgetown Loop Railroad Ride & Silver Plume, Guanella Pass.

Any tour can be customized per your wish, either combining it with additional Colorado destination or tailoring in activities such as  hiking, rafting or fishing - email us your request!
