| There are no spas in the classic sense of the word 'spa' in the Himalaya, namely as spas are known in Europe, but there are many places where hot springs may be found with if not always healing powers so at least all the comforts that a soothing mountain hot spring may give. On the other hand, in the Himalaya a spa has become identified with what's known as 'hill station.' Hill stations, or hill towns, were build by the British during the colonial era to escape the oppressive heat of the plains. They quickly developed as resort towns with fashionable villas and hotels. Today they are still what they were intended to be - a mountain retreat with cool air and fine views of the Himalaya.
